about

Our first foray into music from the 19th Century. The first was written in G as Miss Dallas, a slow air by William Marshall but was subsequently published by the Gow family as a slow strathspey in F with the name above. The second was written by James Scott Skinner. Skinner became synonymous with Scottish Fiddle music through his excellent craftsmanship. He also benefited from the arrival of the gramophone and the dispersal of his recordings to places far and wide of his home area of Banchory. Skinner started his musical life playing cello for Peter Milne - another fine composer and player.
