These tunes come from the Rev. Patrick McDonald's collection of 'Highland Vocal Airs, to which are added a few of the most lively Country Dances or Reels of the North Highlands & Western Isles' McDonald wrote in the preface to this 1784 publication, 'Most of the North-Highland country dances were written from the playing of a bagpipe performer from that district: the others were taken down from the singing or playing of the natives'.
