about

'Earl Grey' was composed by Newcastle based fiddler James Hill and named after a pub in Newcastle which in turn may have been named in honour of Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey (1764-1845) who was Prime Minister of Britain (1830-1834) and remembered principally for his efforts towards abolishing the slave trade.
