about

McLeod wrote that the closest he came to despair was during his time living in a temporary tent city in Melbourne. Their arrival unfortunately coincided with the Australian gold rush and the City of Melbourne had expanded very quickly, causing a major housing crisis. This track fuses a reprise of My Brother’s Letter with the pipe march Australian Ladies, composed by William Fergusson to commemorate the Melbourne based Australian Ladies Pipe band led by Pipe Major Dolly McPherson. Her band embarked on a highly unusual for the time, tour of Scotland, Canada & New Zealand in the 1920s. The breaking waves soundscape was recorded on Cuttagee Beach, NSW, by Gerry Rodrigues, January 2023.
